Coral

I am drawn towards organic forms and with this project I wanted to reimagine these forms with wood as the material of choice. The concept developed around some beautiful, vivid red coral I had previously drawn. Unfortunately, I couldn’t in good conscience recreate its brilliant colours.

Instead, this table represents the sad but true state of our corals: bleached and dying. To capture this, the base is sculpted from textured, bleached sycamore, evoking the skeletal remains of reefs. Above the oceans, our forests and lands are burning: symbolised by the charred ash tabletop with its scorched surface as a reminder of this environmental destruction.

This piece functions as both as a sculptural table and also as a reminder that humanity’s actions shape the fate of the natural world.
