The commissioning process typically takes the form of an open, back and forth conversation between the client and myself. Typically, after an initial enquiry and/or meeting I will produce a series of different concepts to present to you in person, followed by a conversation to see which aspects of the different designs you like and hopefully pin down one general concept to move forward with. Following that input, I will then work through the technical details that let me cost the project as well as putting together a final proposed design, normally accompanied by some renders to help you visualise the piece. This will be presented at a further meeting, along with some sample of different timbers, finishes, leathers etc. to ensure you will get exactly what it is that you are hoping for. If you are then happy with the final proposal I will ask for a deposit for the material components of the piece and then get making.
My intention will always be to provide furniture of the highest quality that the budget allows. I am generally seeking to produce what will become the heirlooms of the future and therefore build for long-lasting quality - pieces that will age gracefully, developing a glorious patina over the centuries. As such, I tend to avoid board materials and work with solid timber where possible. So, whether you have a rough idea for something that you would like made, or something much more specific or architect led, just get in touch by email and I will be very happy to discuss this with you.
